The Mall curatorial partners, Watercolour Society contribute Pharmakon, an exhibition curated by Paz Rocio Mallea Rubilar, eri king, Mallory Concetta Smith, and Til Will. Featuring participating artist Amra Causevic, Chris Daharsh, EVR PIGMENTS, Daniel Greer, Johannah Herr, Coney Ishida, Kian McKeown, Alexander Perrelli, Kevin Quiles Bonilla, Linzi Silverman, K Rawald, Toussaint Rosefort, Jenna Rothstein, Spam Spa, Flora Wilds, and Jeremy Wood. Taking place in the abandoned GameStop, this show features a selection of works that embody Jacques Derrida’s postmodern interpretation of the word—pharmakon as indeterminacy, ambiguity, or anti-substance. Based on Plato’s seemingly open-ended definition—pharmakon as drug, remedy, poison, recipe, potion, charm, spell, and paint all in one. With artworks including artist-made-t-shirts, sculpture, and videos; the exhibit deploys Watercolour Society’s new Artist Coalition for Ethical Sales (A.C.E.S.) initiative with their cooperative dividend sales hypothesis. This initiative redesigns the traditional sales agreement to pool a percentage of art sales revenue into a fund that is redistributed to every participating artist.
